"ISN’T BLOGGING A FORM OF PERFORMANCE? I wanted to shout, but it wasn’t Q&A time yet. CAN BLOGGING BE A FORM OF DURATIONAL PERFORMANCE ART? ISN’T ONE OF THE WEIRDEST AND COOLEST THINGS ABOUT BEING ALIVE RIGHT NOW HOW MANY PEOPLE ARE USING WORDS AND IMAGES TO PERFORM AN IDENTITY ONLINE? ISN’T THERE A REAL INTIMACY TRAPPED IN FAKE INTIMACY THAT IS SOMETIMES MORE INTERESTING THAN OVERT INTIMACY?"
- Emily Gould in response to Barbara Browning, Kate Zambreno and Matthias Viegener on the "phony intimacy" of blogging
I feel like if you're a blogger, you're automatically engaging in a performative activity. If you're constructing something (your voice, actions, self online) there's always a door open to performance. When you're online there's that disconnect that makes it just way too easy to walk through that door. Which makes you wonder how many people are performmmmming (omg)
p.s. I love being "bloggy"

the real intimacy in the fake intimacy rather than overt intimacy is totes post post modern what what
sometimes, but in most cases it's the same boring narcissism.
I must admit I have never thought of it that way. Thanks for the inspiration for my next blog-post ;)
